What we use?

Our Super silt fences are installed using 1.8m steel Y posts, yellow safety caps, high tensile wire (with wire strainers), 2mm Galv wire mesh, plastic butterfly clips and a double layer woven geotextile fabric. The fabric is made to 100gsm, UV stabilised and meets GD05 porosity and strength requirements.

Whats it for?

The purpose of a super silt fence is to slow down your site's runoff flows and allow sediment to settle out of the water. In other words, super silt fences act as temporary barriers that impound (dam) sediment-laden runoff (dirty water), reducing the flow rate so the sediment can settle. It is not designed to filter sediment from the runoff and only has up to 65% efficiency. That means up to 65% of the sediment is likely to be removed with this method of silt control.

  • Earthworks Contractors

  • Forestry Contractors

  • Demolition Contractors

Where is it used?

A super silt fence is ideal for steeper gradients and larger catchments. While similar to regular silt fences, super silt fences are more durable due to using longer y posts, galvanized wire mesh for additional strength, and double-layer fabric. They are designed to intercept higher volume sheet flow (not concentrated flow) and should be installed along the ground's contour. Super silt fences are beneficial for minimizing disturbance on earthworks sites, particularly near sensitive areas like bushland and wetlands.

Limitations

  • Super silt fences are not effective at capturing soil particles finer than 0.02 mm in diameter, such as fine silts and clays. This is due to the short detention time of water behind the fence and the relatively large pore size of the fabric.

  • Super silt fences are designed for use with sheet flows and should not be used with concentrated flows.

  • The pores in super silt fence fabric can become clogged quickly with fine-textured sediments, rendering the fabric impermeable.

Our Capabilities

Our team specializes in silt fence installations, handling projects of any size—from small-scale urban developments and brownfield sites to extensive land development earthworks sites. Whether it's open fields or dense bush, we've done it all. With a team of two, we can efficiently install up to 150 meters of super silt fence daily.
