Sediment Retention Ponds
Your ESC Installation Specialists Contractor
What we use?
Our sediment retention ponds are constructed to ensure reliability and longevity. We use Floc Boxes for flocculent dosing. Laser-level spreader bars using 150mm tall H4 timber, supported in Concrete. UV Stabilised Geofabic and Poly Sheets. Our PVC T-Bar decanters are supported with steel Y posts and high tensile wire.
Whats it for?
The purpose of this product is to detain sediment-laden runoff from large catchment areas (typically greater than 0.3 hectares) in ponds, allowing sufficient time for sediment to settle out of the water. Chemical treatments are used to enhance settling rates, and dewatering techniques remove the top layer of pond water with the lowest sediment concentration. This approach can achieve up to 95% efficiency in removing particles from the water.

Where is it used?
A Sediment Retention Pond is suitable for a wide variety of gradient sites where concentrated flows of sediment-laden runoff occur. The impoundment area is formed by excavation or filling to form embankments. Embankments provide the required impoundment volume and shape. This usually occurs on the lowest level of the catchment to allow flow to be diverted to the SRP using diversion bunds and gravity.
Limitations
-
Specific geotechnical design input may be required
-
SRP location can impact ther ease of ongoing maintenance (particularly during winter) and decommissioning after earthworks
-
Specific design details may be required, including drawings, to ensure correct construction
-
Catchment areas should be restricted to 5 ha. This limits the length of overland flow paths, reduces maintenance, and limits the size of flocculant treatment devices
